Day 1: Arrival in Taipei – Explore the City Center

Taipei Fine Arts Museum – a modern art museum

Taipei Fine Arts Museum is Taiwan’s first museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art. It features exhibitions by Taiwanese and international artists, providing insight into the development of modern art in Taiwan and the broader global art scene.

Taipei 101 – an iconic symbol of Taiwan with panoramic city views

Taipei 101 is one of Taiwan’s most recognizable landmarks and was once the tallest building in the world. The tower combines office space, shopping areas, and observation decks that offer panoramic views of Taipei and its surrounding mountains.

Ximending – a lively pedestrian area known for fashion and street food

Ximending is a pedestrian district in central Taipei that developed during the Japanese colonial period. Today, it is known for its concentration of fashion stores, cinemas, street performances, and a wide variety of street food, reflecting youth culture and urban life in the city.

Raohe Night Market or Shilin Night Market – experience local street food

Day 2: Culture and Nature in Taipei

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall – a landmark historical monument

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall was built to commemorate Chiang Kai-shek, former President of the Republic of China. The complex is located within Liberty Square and includes the Memorial Hall, the National Theater, and the National Concert Hall. Its architecture follows traditional Chinese design and reflects an important historical period in Taiwan after 1949.

Jiufen Old Street – a mountain village with sea views and traditional tea houses

Jiufen Old Street originated during the gold mining boom in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The village developed along mountain slopes with stepped streets, narrow alleys, and closely packed traditional houses. Today, Jiufen retains many historic buildings and traditional tea houses, reflecting the daily life of a former mining town.

Shifen – release sky lanterns and visit Shifen Waterfall

Shifen is a settlement that developed along the Pingxi railway line, which was originally built to support coal mining activities. The custom of releasing sky lanterns in Shifen began as a way to signal safety to villagers in the past and gradually became a local cultural tradition. Near the old street is Shifen Waterfall, formed along the Keelung River with natural layered rock formations.

Bitou Cape or Yehliu Geopark – coastal geological wonders (if time allows)

Bitou Cape is a coastal headland featuring cliffside trails and was historically used as a maritime observation point. Yehliu Geopark is a well-known geological park containing numerous sedimentary rock formations shaped by wind and sea erosion over millions of years, illustrating the geological development of Taiwan’s northern coastline.

Morning: Travel to Taichung

Rainbow Village – a colorful artistic village

Rainbow Village is a small residential area in Taichung, known for its colorful murals painted by a former soldier to preserve an old military housing complex. Sun Moon Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Taiwan, located in the mountainous region of southern Taichung. Its name comes from the lake’s shape, with the eastern side resembling the sun and the western side curving like a crescent moon.
